ADU/DADU FAQ's
A mother-in-law suite is a studio-style apartment with sometimes a kitchenette and bathroom. On the other hand, an ADU requires that there is a bedroom and closet with a bathroom, kitchen, and living area. A mother-in-law suite is usually done at a lower cost. An ADU provides a more private space.
An ADU is an accessory dwelling unit, while a DADU is a detached ADU–not connected to your home. A DADU is a standalone structure.
An ADU requires finding existing lines and adding on. DADU’s require their own separate lines, especially electrical. A DADU also requires its own panel and electrical outlets.
